Valtice Castle: UNESCO Splendor in Every Wing
Once the principal seat of the Liechtenstein family, Valtice Castle ranks among the region’s most striking landmarks and forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside, guests can tour:
-
The Apartment of Emperor Francis I – preserved in imperial elegance.
-
The Baroque Theater – a rare, fully restored court playhouse.
-
The Castle Chapel – with ornate stucco and period frescoes.
-
The 15th-Century Cellar – still housing oak barrels of local wine, ready for tasting.
Beyond the walls, the formal garden invites families to unwind; children can dig in the sandbox or water the herb beds while parents recharge.
Valtice Underground: A Medieval Labyrinth of Wine
Beneath the cobblestones lies a 13th-century maze of corridors first excavated by Minorite monks and later expanded by the Franciscans, who propelled regional winemaking to fame.
Today, you can savor curated flights of Valtice vintages paired with light bites while cimbalom bands provide live Moravian folklore. Regular concerts and seasonal festivals add to the authentic atmosphere.
The Fairytale World Exhibition: Magic for Young Explorers
On 2,700 sq ft (250 m²), “The Fairytale World” brings together the largest collection of Czech storybook characters under one roof.
Classic figures - from Sleeping Beauty and Little Red Riding Hood to the Gingerbread Cottage - share the stage with beloved TV bedtime heroes such as Little Mole and Big-Eared Maxipes Fík.
The interactive displays keep children engaged for hours, rain or shine.
Barefoot Trail: Five Kilometers, Countless Textures
Leave your shoes behind and follow the Barefoot Trail from Valtice to Schrattenberg, Austria.
Along the 3-mile (5 km) route you’ll walk on wood chips, pebbles, grass and clay while discovering points of interest, including the Iron Curtain Museum - the nation’s first exhibit documenting border security from 1948–1989.
