Karlovy Vary is one of the most famous towns in the Czech Republic. This spa city is frequently visited not only by domestic tourists but also by visitors from abroad. The city gained recognition both in the Czech Republic and internationally thanks to its renowned film festival, which often attracts world-famous actors and directors. Orthodox Church of St. Peter and Paul
This building is hard to overlook. At the very least, its golden domes are visible from all the city’s hills. However, the interest in this architectural gem goes beyond the roof—its walls are adorned with various ornaments and images of saints, which captivate with their beauty.
Equally mesmerizing is the interior of this sacred place. So, it’s definitely worth not just admiring the Church of St. Peter and Paul from the outside, but also taking a look inside.
Museum: The History of Spa Treatment and Local Crafts
Almost every somewhat larger city has its own museum, and Karlovy Vary is no exception. The local museum primarily focuses on two topics: the crafts typical for the region and spa treatment.
It’s also a great spot to visit with children. While the above-mentioned exhibits might not interest them much, the interactive exhibition of the famous clumsy characters Pat and Mat is sure to engage them.
Thermal Pool: Relaxation in Mineral Water
As a well-known spa city, Karlovy Vary offers numerous places for relaxation. One of the most popular is the Thermal Pool.
Unlike regular swimming pools, this one doesn’t contain the usual chlorinated water. It is filled only with mineral water, which has a beneficial effect on the entire body.
The complex also includes a sauna, and visitors can enjoy massages here as well. The Thermal Pool is located near the city center.
Moser Glassworks: How Famous Czech Glass is Made
Just like the healing springs and the film festival, Moser Glassworks has made Karlovy Vary famous worldwide. Visitors can watch how the renowned hand-blown glass products are made.
At the same location, it is also possible to purchase a wide variety of interesting souvenirs, all made from glass.
Papilonia: Tropical Garden Full of Exotic Butterflies
Anyone who enjoys butterflies should not miss a visit to the tropical garden called Papilonia. This garden boasts a large number of different butterflies, mostly from exotic countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, and Mexico.
In Papilonia, around 30 species of butterflies fly freely, with a designated area of 100 m². Some specimens here are truly hard to miss, as their wingspan can reach up to 20 cm.
